Use of Lasers in Acne Treatments

Acne problems are as common as they can be stubborn. Medication doesn’t always work. Despite the slick ads of some acne removal products, they’re results aren’t always effective. Over the counter creams may work on some, but not all. Alternative treatments and herbal remedies are great if your skin has a good reaction, but sometimes they can antagonize the problem.

Laser Usage

If you suffer from a persistent acne problem, have you ever considered the use of lasers? The use of acne in laser treatments is a maturing science. Once derided as ineffective in the early 90s, the science has since developed to gain FDA approval and has been proven very effective in acne removal. It’s a non-invasive, fairly painless application that can clear acne deep in the skin. Exposing your skin to no more than light, acne can be cleaned and alleviated for a fresh, healthy skin that’s blemish free.

Typically, it’s performed under anesthesia so you never feel a thing. The treatment can be applied quickly with almost no recovery time required. It can clear up your skin and is much less invasive than surgery.

How the Lasers Work

Lasers work to kill the bacteria that cause acne, stopping it in its tracks. Lasers also shrink the sebaceous glands in your skin that produce too much oil, clearing up the cause of the acne at its source. This is the oil that often causes whiteheads and unsightly blackheads. Glands that produce too much oil can be shrunken by the lasers so they produce a lower amount, eliminating the source of the acne before it ravages your face.

There’s no evidence that laser treatments for acne are unsafe. On the contrary, they are less invasive than other surgical procedures. There are some minor side effects that are common with laser treatments, but they don’t last long and disappear in a short time. Some of these may include redness on the face, shiny skin, slight oozing and bleeding, or sore skin. These are common symptoms you’d experience with any surgery, but they will shortly disappear over time.

Some treatments can be done with one application. Some take a steady program to clean up the problem. It depends on how severe the acne breakout may be.  Generally, they are gone within a day to a week, leaving fresh, healthy skin behind. You may be prescribed some pain medication if pain is worse than expected.

Acne Scar Treatment

Scars can be a natural result of acne, forming at the site of the injured tissue. It’s caused by the body’s inflammatory response to sebum, bacteria and dead cells in the plugged hair follicle. You generally either get scars that are depressed indentations or scars that appear as raised, thickened tissue. There a natural result of the messy repair job white blood cells make when repairing the acne. These can be worsened through excessive picking or popping of the acne when it’s not left to heal on its own.

The scars can also be treated with laser treatments. Intense lights of various wavelengths and intensities can help recontour the scar tissue, reducing the redness of the skin around the healed acne lesions. Because the skin can absorb the light, post redness may persist for several months. This is natural and temporary. When the skin recovers, it will be healed, acne and scar free and healthy again.

However, it’s best to zap the acne at its source before scarring takes place or gets severe. Lasers provide it in a way that’s less invasive than surgery and requires shorter recovery periods. Return your skin to its natural healthy beauty again with the science of lasers. It can heal and alleviate skin problems, returning youth and freshness to your face.
