Two philosophies of body contouring
Destroy the cell, or empty it.
Every non-invasive contouring technology has to do something to the fat cell — and most of the market destroys it.
Cryolipolysis freezes fat cells until they die. Radiofrequency and high-powered lasers heat them until they do. The body then spends weeks clearing away the dead cells through an inflammatory response; that cleanup is the treatment. Erchonia takes the opposite approach: the laser prompts the cell to release the fat stored inside. The cell empties and stays alive; the body processes the released fat through the lymphatic system, the same way it moves fat every day.

Both approaches reduce circumference. One leaves behind destroyed tissue and a redrawn fat-storage map. The other leaves healthy cells that simply hold less.
Research on fat-cell removal has shown that when cells in one area are eliminated, new fat storage can redistribute to untreated areas — and in some cases shift toward deeper visceral fat. Because Erchonia’s mechanism leaves the fat cells intact, the body’s natural storage map stays where it belongs.

Absorption
Laser light at a specific wavelength is absorbed at the adipocyte, initiating a photochemical response in the cell membrane. Absorption is wavelength-specific — which is why Erchonia engineers discrete diodes rather than broad-spectrum output.

The pore forms
The stimulus causes a transitory pore to open in the cell membrane — a temporary passage, not an injury. The cell’s structure and viability are preserved.

Lipids release
Stored triglycerides and fatty material move out of the cell into the interstitial space. The adipocyte deflates rather than dies.

The body clears the rest
Released lipids are processed through the lymphatic system — the same route the body uses to transport fats every day. No inflammatory cleanup of dead tissue, because no tissue was killed.
This is why the patient experience is what it is: the mechanism has no heat to feel, no frozen tissue to ache, and no cellular destruction for the body to recover from.
