Non-thermal laser therapy for modern veterinary medicine.
Precise, high-energy visible laser light that works at the cellular level — without heat, sedation or downtime — for every species on the schedule.
Erchonia’s veterinary lasers are non-thermal and engineered to deliver precise, high-energy visible laser light that interacts directly with cellular processes. By prioritizing wavelength specificity over raw wattage, they support controlled, repeatable outcomes at the mitochondrial level without a thermal contribution. Three handhelds — red, red-and-violet, green-and-violet — share one platform, one touch-screen workflow and preset protocols for canine, equine, feline and exotics.

High-energy, not high-powered.Erchonia earned the first FDA market clearance ever granted for low-level laser therapy and has built 25 since. The veterinary line runs the same wavelengths, diodes and patented optics.

A different approach
What makes Erchonia different from Class IV lasers?
Many veterinary Class IV systems rely on higher power output that produces a therapeutic warming effect in tissue. Erchonia lasers take a different approach.
In veterinary medicine, many Class IV laser systems rely on higher power output that produces a photothermal response — warming that can support circulation and provide short-term relief when applied appropriately. Erchonia systems are non-thermal: precise, high-energy visible laser light that interacts directly with cellular processes without relying on heat. By prioritizing wavelength specificity over raw wattage, the technology supports controlled, repeatable outcomes at the mitochondrial level without thermal contribution. While some platforms emphasize temporary heat-driven effects, Erchonia is built on controlled, non-invasive light interaction designed to work with the body’s natural recovery processes. For veterinarians who value precision, safety and cellular-level care, this distinction matters.

| Class IV thermal lasers | Erchonia non-thermal lasers | |
|---|---|---|
| Mechanism | Photothermal — warms tissue | Photochemical — light absorbed at the mitochondria, no heat |
| Power | Watts | Milliwatts — high photon energy, low power |
| Safety in the room | Goggles, restraint, clipping, cooldown; burn risk under the coat | Awake, unrestrained, no clipping for safety, no cooldown |
| Dose | Rises with power and time | Set by wavelength and protocol — the biphasic dose principle respected by design |
| Workflow | Operator-monitored | Preset species protocols; handheld goes to the animal |
Precision over wattage. Energy advancement, not power escalation.
The line
Three handhelds. One platform.
Matched to the caseload — from the foundational red protocol to the most energetic pairing Erchonia makes.

VLS
Dual 640 nm red · handheld
The proven foundation in veterinary photobiomodulation — two line-generating red diodes for musculoskeletal comfort and mobility support in companion and performance animals alike.
Best for: foundational musculoskeletal and mobility-focused protocols in small and large animal practice.

EVL
640 nm red + 405 nm violet · handheld
Red for healing and violet for its anti-bacterial and anti-microbial properties — musculoskeletal presentations and, when appropriate, dermatological ones, in one portable system.
Best for: clinics seeking dual-wavelength versatility for both mobility and skin-related applications.

VGL
520 nm green + 405 nm violet · handheld
The world’s first green-and-violet laser, adapted for veterinary use — engineered to interact with the mitochondrial pathways associated with cellular energy production.
Best for: performance-focused, rehabilitation and advanced veterinary care environments.

MitoCollar
Wearable · pet health
Erchonia light therapy in a wearable collar — the take-home companion to in-clinic laser care, and a retail line for the practice.
Best for: clinics that want a take-home option between visits.

What the literature reports.
Case reports and a controlled study on Erchonia non-thermal lasers in veterinary medicine.
01
Resolution of a large non-healing canine wound
AHVMA Journal, Fall 2013 — Grognet & Janes
A 13-year-old neutered male German Shepherd cross presented with a large, infected, non-healing wound over the left hip that had failed to respond to 44 days of conventional surgical and medical therapy — debridement, antibiotics, drains, suturing and anti-inflammatories. When laser therapy began the wound measured 18 cm × 15 cm with 2–6 cm of pocketing, limb edema, recurring infection, declining body condition and an owner considering euthanasia. The case report documents the wound’s resolution under frequency-specific low-level laser therapy.
02
Palliative cancer management in companion animals
AHVMA Journal, Spring 2014
Four canine cancer cases managed with Erchonia’s frequency-specific laser system when surgery or chemotherapy was declined. In one, a 9-year-old Labradoodle with a large infiltrative abdominal mass strongly suspected to be sarcoma showed initial tumor stabilization, periodic regression, multiple documented temporary reductions in tumor size, improved mobility and appetite, and a maintained quality of life for over 18 months. Laser therapy was used as a palliative approach and appeared to slow progression while maintaining comfort.
03
Accelerated healing of equine distal limb wounds
Oklahoma State University — Jann, Bartels, Ritchey et al., Photonics & Lasers in Medicine, 2012
Distal limb wounds in horses are notoriously slow to heal because of poor vascularity and exuberant granulation tissue (“proud flesh”). The OSU study evaluated a line-generating 635 nm dual-diode scanner on full-thickness mid-metacarpal wounds in eight mares. Laser-treated wounds were completely epithelialized at day 80 post-surgery while the control wounds were not — and the laser-treated wounds showed no exuberant granulation tissue.
Case reports describe individual animals and are not a guarantee of outcome. Erchonia veterinary lasers are intended for use by veterinary professionals.
